Who I Am

I know firsthand how it feels to arrive somewhere new, attempt to get your bearings, work hard to learn the local language, and still feel lonely at the end of the day. When I think back to what got me through these transitions (kind friends, wise therapists, durable routines, tiny wins) it seems both miraculous and ordinary that I eventually felt settled.

When I lived in Latin America, the therapist I met with there had a profound impact on my life. I knew upon returning to the U.S. that I would feel unfulfilled continuing a career in public health and I wanted to help people in a one-on-one capacity.

My training followed a natural progression toward this work. As an undergrad I learned how to make communities well via disease prevention, health promotion, and education. In graduate school I turned toward the individual, the couple, and the family. My studies explored different ways to work with trauma, addiction, and eating disorders (to name a few). I also completed a thesis examining the connections between Third Culture Kids, unresolved grief, and resilience. This work continues to inform how I think about identity, loss, and what it means to belong.

My style of therapy is direct and change-oriented. If you are looking for a weekly "emotional back rub", you won't find it with me. I focus on supporting clients as they try new things, attempt to relate differently to their life and the people in it, and experience change. Therapy is an immense investment of time, money, and emotional energy and I want to honor your investment by offering honest feedback. I ask that you do the same with me.

Everything I bring to this work is intentional. Grounded in my lived experience, professional training, and a genuine belief that change is possible. I mean what I say and I believe I can help you.
